Description

Thinking long and hard how to escape these confined and close quarters, this chimp would give a million bananas to be free! I wish I could help him.

I had to sneak around a rock at the zoo to pull this shot off. I'm glad I was able to remain inconspicuous to his critical thinking. I wanted the foreground rock as part of my frame and I think I was able to pull this off nicely. I'd like to hear what you guys/gals think!

I dedicate this one to Brian! This one's for you Monkey Boy!

As always, your C/C is appreciated! Please see the larger version for MUCH greater detail!

Best Regards,
Tommyguns

I like his pose Tom! This could easily be called "The Thinker". I don't care for the black area which I guess is the wall. I find it so highly contrasting that it's very distracting ... at least to me. I also would love to see the chimpanzee's eyes but they are blotted out by a heavy shadow. Great job on the framing presentation!

Are you sure this is a gorilla? For me he looks like a chimpanzee.

Too bad for that black area on the right...(but it's personal taste)

The impact of this image is great!

Thanks for the C/Cs and heads-up! It is indeed a chimp, and not a gorilla. Fixed! :)

R u playing "Peeping Tom" here? LOL

The Thinker (statue by Rodin) is a good similarity.

This composition is good due to the chimps pose! (thumbup)

The technical parts are not to perfection this time.
  • Light conditions causing shadows around the eyes leaving not much details.
  • The black foreground (right side) thingy is not ideal.

The pose is great, and I like the wall of stones at the background.

The light conditions were harsh, as mentioned. The area in the left is overexposed, and the black mask on the eyes is too dark.

I'd select these shaded areas and try to expose with shadow/highlight. I suspect they will remain dark, but as his left eye is almost visible now, it will surely improve it.

Great capture of a very good pose....a variation of Rodin's thinker.,in which the hand rest on the chin.
Nice sensation of depth.....I may have cropped some at the top.
Good work Tommy!
The light is difficult to work with.

A really good capture in difficult lighting conditions. I'm not crazy about the right side blackness but you handled it well.

Fabulous capture. It brings many emotions to bear (no pun). I'd have titled it 'Evolutionary Thinker', but that's me ;)

Nice one :)

Really like the lighting on this - the dusty/misty atmosphere gives a nice feeling of depth and frames the chimps face with a natural soft-focus vignette.
I also like the idea of your 'rock border' it adds perspective to the image - but it is 'demanding - I'd suggest possibly masking it out and altering the colour balance - the deep blue shadows don't relate to the rest of the image, if you could desaturate and maybe tint it with that 'diarhea yellow' a little it might blend more with the other rocks.
The pose is perfect... maybe dodge the eyes a little to try to pull out some highlights/shadow detail.

I'm amazed! Great shot! If you didn't had that black space... it would be perfect!

I dont understand the others here (rolls eyes), the forground rock is what so solidly grounds this image as a candid style of shot, it solidifies the idea that you were hiding to take this shot, otherwise it would be just a 'nice' shot of a 'Thinker' and not this wonderfull capture you have blessed us with here. Dont worry about what the others said, it's this out-of-the-box thinking that makes you the good photographer you are.
Traff's right though, maybe changing the tint of the forground rock is needed.
Otherwise an outstanding peice, thanks for sharing, top marks from me.

Great pose and good image..
Didnt they use these poor guys in the space race ? didnt one go into orbit ?
I have always wondered if they sent them to the MOON :)

Your a good man and a great photographer. Keep it up man.
The black area on the right does nothing for the composition !

I like the black on the right. A great shot considering the lighting. Most likely the chimp is thinking, "How did I get here?"
