Description
Hi GFXers! Last weekend, my sister and her husband asked me to photograph the hands and feet of their newborn; my nephew, Logan. I was honored to have the opportunity and you know I had to take advantage! I've turned this image into black and white using the channel mixer set to monochrome and adjusting the contrast from there. I've also added the "dreamglow" effect to give you a softer, yet sharp image!Enjoy Part 1 of 2. I call this: Embrace
EXIF:
Nikon D200
Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 (Prime)
Nikon Speedlight SB-600
White Velvet Sheet
1/60 second @ f/8
Thank you and as always, your comments and crits are always greatly appreciated!
*Being so against white borders, I decided this image looked better with one. This is a rare example that you will see me use one.*
Please see the larger version for much better details and background quality!

From an artistic point of view, though, I find this to be too "posed" and more than a little cliché. This gives it a feel that's detached from reality, and for that reason I feel it lacks any genuine expression. Obviously this is purely a matter of taste, and I certainly can't find any technical flaws, but I just don't feel anything when I look at this.
The execution is near perfect. But as a matter of personal opinion, I feel the concept is rather empty.

A mini-tiny crit would be the stiff setup as the babies hand comes up straight
from the middle. Had it formed a diagonal line, it had been a bit smoother, I think.
But you cannot always tell a baby that
