Description

Hi GFXers! Last weekend, my sister and her husband asked me to photograph the hands and feet of their newborn; my nephew, Logan. I was honored to have the opportunity and you know I had to take advantage! I've turned this image into black and white using the channel mixer set to monochrome and adjusting the contrast from there. I've also added the "dreamglow" effect to give you a softer, yet sharp image!

Enjoy Part 1 of 2. I call this: Embrace

EXIF:
Nikon D200
Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 (Prime)
Nikon Speedlight SB-600
White Velvet Sheet
1/60 second @ f/8

Thank you and as always, your comments and crits are always greatly appreciated! :)

*Being so against white borders, I decided this image looked better with one. This is a rare example that you will see me use one.* ;)

Please see the larger version for much better details and background quality!

This is very professional. I could easily see this in a library of high quality stock photography, and if you're not already doing this for a living, you certainly could be.

From an artistic point of view, though, I find this to be too "posed" and more than a little cliché. This gives it a feel that's detached from reality, and for that reason I feel it lacks any genuine expression. Obviously this is purely a matter of taste, and I certainly can't find any technical flaws, but I just don't feel anything when I look at this.

The execution is near perfect. But as a matter of personal opinion, I feel the concept is rather empty.

It is a simplistic shot that has been done before, well done handling lights and shadows. Execution is quite good, but to be honest there just is not enough happing to possible cause an issue.

Great B/W and soft focus (tommy's dreamy glow) ;)
A mini-tiny crit would be the stiff setup as the babies hand comes up straight
from the middle. Had it formed a diagonal line, it had been a bit smoother, I think.
But you cannot always tell a baby that :)

Thanks Dom, but the baby was rather unwilling and was getting very pissy! HAHA He wasn't taking the job unless it was paid! ;)

Of course it's a well-known concept, but I like this picture a lot.
It displays the miracle of life I guess. I like the softness.
Very nice :)
